Diego Spatafore about himself and the Sierra Nevada (Chile):
"March 13th, 1974 I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. (Happy birthday to you, Diego, from the bikemoments Team and all users!).
I´ve been always passionate about nature and photography. In the Southern Patagonian city of Río Gallegos, Argentina, I´ve started as a photographer where I took my first photography course at the age of 12.
I `ve moved with my family to Temuco at the age of 17, where I finished my secondary education. I`ve choosen to remain in La Araucanía because of its beautifull landscapes and my passion for mountain biking, a hobby that has allowed me to become a pioneer in the search for routes and trails in the region.
In 2001 I´ve founded http://www.mtbtemuco.com – a group of mountain-biking lovers that has already done many activities in Southern Chile.
Biking around La Araucanía, I´ve re-encountered photography, my biggest passion.
In 2008 I´ve published my first photo book "Tesoros de la Araucanía"
showing people from La Araucanía, the details of volcanos, rivers,
lakes, hot springs and millennial forests.
Currently, I´m Manager of http://www.fotoaraunia.com, an image bank of La Araucanía and also Director of Green Doors.
At present I´m working on my next book project about summit in all volcanos of this región. It has obtained summit in Volcano Sollipulli, Volcán Quetrupillan, Volcán Sierra Nevada, Volcán Lonquimay, Volcan Batea Mahuida."
About the photoset of the Sierra Nevada, Diego told us:
"Sierra Nevada is a volcano ubicated in Araucanía Region, in south of Chile. Access is possible from Malalcahuello town in a path with a lot of forest. I´ve done the tour on 2 days. The first day I ride with my mountain bike for 4 hours. In total it is 1.900 meters above sea level.
Next day we´ve started early in the morning by walking and carrying our mountainbikes, because the slop was very high. Before we reached the summit, which is a big glaciar, we had to walk again.
Standing on top of the summit the view is spectaclar!
You can see a lot of volcanes of this wonderfull Andes: Llaima, Lanin, Villarrica, Sollipulli, Lonquimay, Tolhuaca, Callaqui, Sierra Velluda, Copahue.
Down hill is the best part.
Up hill we were riding for 8 hours in two stages.
Downhill with the moutainbikes to Malalcahuello town it took us only 2 hours."
